Corey Towle is passionate about running and is the newest addition to our run sales force. Here is Corey’s story.
I joined the cross country running team when I was in seventh grade. Right away I learned: 1. Don’t have milk with your cheerios right before a race. (I threw up as soon as I finished my first race) 2. This sport is going to be an important part of my life.
I ran through high school. The highlight of high school was missing qualifying for state in track and field by .03 second in the 3200 meters.
College Wisconsin, Stevens Point, I learned the longer the race the more fun I had. For track that was the 10,000 meters for which I qualified for nationals as a senior .. Also I was a part of two national qualifying cross country teams. I was on pace to be an All American with a half mile to go both years. Too bad the race wasn't 7.2k long. At Stevens Point I earned a BS in Health Promotion and Wellness with minors in Coaching and Strength and Conditioning
After college I moved to Iowa and coached cross country and track at St Ambrose University in Davenport Iowa. I also worked at Running Wild running shoe store, also in Davenport.
Iowa introduced me to many things,
The Bix Seven - the largest seven mile road race in the Midwest - with 20,000 runners. My best finish was 21st in 2013. The Bix is one big hot party.
In Iowa I started training for and competing in a few triathlons - I found I really like the Olympic distance. The HyVee Triathlon in Des Moines was my favorite - they had a million dollar purse. My best finish there was sixth in the amateur race. I’m not quite ready to go pro.
Now I’m in Minnesota, and I’ve jumped in with both feet. I got into cross country skiing right away. I skied my first Birkie in 2015. Next year I will be Wave 2 for the Birkie skate race. Right now I’m training for the Twin Cities Marathon and my goal is to break 2:30. I’ve watched the TC a few times but have never run it. I love the course and crowd support, I especially look forward to the hill at 21 miles.
At Gear West I enjoy talking with customers about running and helping them select gear that will help them enjoy running as much as I do.
